Ancient Games

Kia Ora and welcome back to my blog. This week we came back to school from a 2 week holiday. We got back and since the Olympics are coming up, we learnt about its history pretty much. This week we focused on the Ancient Olympics and what things they did back then. We learnt about the sports, what the athletes did, and more.

Something interesting I learnt about the ancient games is that a sacrifice would take place in honor of Zeus and other gods. The sacrifice was to kill 100 cows and they athletes would eat the meat of those cows. Another thing I learnt is that Theogenes of Thassos won over 1,300 times in boxing and pankration events. They made a statue of him in his home town.

Our create task was to make a copy of a slideshow and fill in the blanks. Here is my create and I hope you learn lots from it. What is your favorite Olympic sport?

The GreenThumb Rover

Kia Ora and welcome back to my blog. Today I will be showing you my invention for PBL that can be good for a habitat. I chose to make a Rover in the forest that can detect a spot where a tree can be planted, and can detect when a tree needs to be watered. This helps the habitat because more trees can help with providing oxygen, improving air quality, climate amelioration, conserving water, preserving soil, and supporting wildlife. Here is my invention, I hope you like it. What is your favorite habitat?

The Groynes Trip

This week we went to the Groynes to learn more about Freshwater Habitats, since that is what we are learning about in PBL. At the Groynes when we arrived we went for a walk on the swing bridge. On the swing bridge, some people were shaking the bridge and it was scary but fun at the same time, the bridge was also slippery. After we had a walk on the bridge, our instructor Tracey took us on a walk through some trees and gave us some history on the variety of trees. After that we went on another bridge and looked down on the stream to see if we can spot some animals, we did not. Then we went fishing for insects with nets. There were so many insects we caught, a group even caught a Cockabully in their net. The most common insect we caught was called a Water boatman. Afterwards, Tracey taught us what we can feed ducks and what not to feed ducks. It turns out that feeding bread to the ducks is bad and feeding it cooked rice is better! Did you know this? After that we played a game about survival. 1 person was a duck, 2 people were something that I forgot what it was called, 6 people were water boatman and 11 people were plants. We had to collect life cards to survive one day before the day ended. I was a plant and I was getting hunted by Water boatman because they needed a plant life card to survive. I did not make it past the first day or the second day. But the trip to the Groynes was really cool and really fun and I had a great time.

What is your favorite sport?

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog. Today I will be showing you the next thing we are learning about in Maths. We have been starting to learn about Statistics and Data. Today we had to come up with something to collect data with, I came up with what is your favorite sports and my selections were Rugby, Basketball, Netball, Soccer, Hockey, American Football, Tennis and an option for other.

Here are my statements on the data I collected.

I see that Netball, Rugby and Soccer are all tied at the most amount of votes.

American Football and Tennis had the least amount of votes with no votes at all.

Basketball and Other has the same amount of people with 3 people voting for it.

Here is my graph with the data I collected, I hope you like it. What is your favorite sport, mine is Basketball! Goodbye.

My Holy Trinity Symbol

Hello and welcome to my blog. Today I will be showing you my task for R.E this week. This week’s task in R.E was to make a new symbol for the Holy Trinity. I chose to do something like this and put other symbols in it like a crown for God, the Cross for Jesus and a Dove for the Holy Spirit. Here is my final product, I hope you like it! Who is your favorite saint?

Wolf Spiders!

The past couple of weeks we have been learning about Insects. Our task was to make a Mihi or a Fact File about any insect. I did a fact file about Wolf Spiders. I chose to do a wolf spider because its name sounds cool since it has the name of 2 different animals in its name. What we had to include was the Species, Genus, Family, Order, Class, Phylum, Kingdom and we had to describe the land where the insect comes from. Something interesting I found out about Wolf Spiders is that they are robust and agile hunters with excellent eyesight. Here is my fact file and I hope you like it!

The Mighty Manny Pacquiao!

The Mighty Manny Pacquiao, Boxer, Beginner Chess Player, and a proud Christian man. Did you know that he started boxing while working as a construction worker and enduring hunger just to send money to his mother?

This week we had to write biographies about people who made an impact. I chose to write about Manny Pacquiao because he has made an impact in his country of the Philippines, and the fact that he is my favorite boxer.

Here is my biography, have a read and tell me what you think about it! Who is your favorite person who has made an impact?

________________________________________________________________

Manny Pacquiao is an inspirational, motivational, impressive Filipino boxer. Manny is the only boxer in history to have won twelve major world titles in eight different weight divisions.

“With God, hard work and focus, I can accomplish what is ahead of me” – Manny Pacquiao.

He was born in Kibawe, Philippines on the 17th December 1978. Manny does boxing for a living, but outside of that he loves to play chess and he is learning how to play the piano. But what he really loves to do outside of boxing is photography. Manny Pacquiao has the nickname of “Pac-Man”.

Earlier in his life, he was really poor, in fact he was so poor that at age 14 he had to drop out of school. After that, him and his family snuck onto a ship to Manila. In Manila, he lived on the streets for some time. Manny Pacquiao has 5 siblings.

Manny made history by being the first boxer ever to win world titles in eight weight divisions, having won twelve major world titles, as well as being the first boxer to win the lineal championship in five different weight classes. That’s really impressive!

Pacquiao is a proud Christian man, he credits God’s strength for his success, openly sharing his Christian faith even with opponents. He believed God’s goodness and blessings led to his success. Generally, he shares the Christian gospel, meets fellow Christians and helps out the poor people.

As the years went by, he’s directed a large chunk of his boxing fortune toward hundreds of student scholarships, farming equipment in poor areas, churches, hospitals, disaster relief, environmental causes, and numerous international charities. Could you make an impact in your country just like how Manny did?

Grooving Greatness with Groove Pizza! SLJ Task – Groove Pizza Kick start

Kia Ora and welcome to Patrick’s Summer Learning Journey, with the Summer Learning Journey. Today I did a task where we had to make a beat on Groove Pizza. Groove Pizza is a playful tool for creating grooves using math concepts like shapes, angles, and patterns. I found doing this very cool because I could make the beat in the form of a pizza by clicking the dots. Since this is music, what is your favorite song or favorite music artist? Mine is Ghost Town by Kanye West.

Watershot vs Lapulapu II! SLJ Task – Superhero Step it Up

Kia Ora and welcome back to part two of the superheroes task of the Summer Learning Journey teaser tasks. Today we had to make a villan to go with the superhero and make a comic about it.

The villan I have created is named Watershot. Watershot is a villain trying to get “revenge” on lapulapu the second because he thought that he was the cause of the bombings from ww2 was all his plans. Due to the bombings, he got into some trouble with some nuclear waste and turned him into a sea creature and he haunts the seas of japan and the philippines.

The comic I made is just a short three squared comic that is quick to read. I also made a character profile for Watershit like what I did with Lapulapu. Here is my comics & profile.

The Great Lapulapu the Second. SLJ Kick Start

Welcome to the first Summer Learning Journey post from your favourite Patrick (That’s me if you are new). For the first task, we had to make a superhero and add some info on him like where he is from, his abilities, their costume etc. We had to option to do it on either Craiyon, Google Drawing or Kleki. I used Craiyon which is AI that generates any image with the words you type in it. I chose this because I wanted to try out something new instead of boring Google Draw. My superhero, Lapulapu the second is a Philippine based superhero who is  mostlyconnected with the jungle. He has many weapons made by him when he was abandoned as a child like a wooden sniper rifle with ammo made with wood, and a self-made spear. Here is my create. Who is your favourite superhero?
