NATO – North Atlantic Treaty Organisation

With 30 members—28 European and 2 North Americans—the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, often known as the North Atlantic Alliance, is an intergovernmental military alliance. Today I will be reciting the countries of NATO, When NATO was founded and why NATO was formed. Enjoy.

Why was NATO formed?

In the years following the Second World War, the North Atlantic Alliance was created. Its goals were to safeguard European peace, foster collaboration among its members, and protect their freedom – all within the framework of fending off the Soviet Union’s (Communist Russia) danger at the time.

 

When was NATO founded?

NATO was founded on the 4th of April  in Washington D.C. Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, the United Kingdom and the United States were the first 12 to join the alliance. North Macedonia is the most recent member.
