Why did Yugoslavia disintegrate?

Why did Yugoslavia disintegrate? Hello, My  name is Patrick and I will be answering the question on why Yugoslavia disintegrated. But first, What is Yugoslavia?

Yugoslavia was a large country that sat on the Balkan peninsula between the years of 1918 – 2003. Yugoslavia consists of 6 nations. Those 6 nations being Slovenia, Croatia, Monetenegro, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia. But what caused this nation to disappear?  Lets find out shall we!

Why did Yugoslavia dissapear?

Between 1929 and 2003, Yugoslavia was a sovereign nation. The main causes of its dissolution were a combination of centrifugal nationalist tendencies and cultural and religious differences, as well as memories of atrocities committed during World War 2.

Slovenia, Croatia, and Macedonia, the first three of the six former Yugoslav republics to declare their independence which happened in 1991 , followed by Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992, Montenegro and Serbia in 2006, and Kosovo’s declaration of independence from Serbia in 2008.

A very short explanation today since mine are so long. QUESTION ALERT!!!!! What was the official name of Bosnia? Have a great day everybody!                                                                                              Thank you to @thegeotraveler on TikTok for helping me with some information.
