Friendship

We were given the choice to make a friendship soup as part of our reading this week. I believe that every friendship need to have a friendship soup. Consider: half a cup of compassion. That’s it, and this is my friendship soup, the recipe suggests you produce.

1 spoonful of attitude, 10 cups of caring, 3 tablespoonfuls of trust, 2 cups of love, 2 spoonfuls of kindness, 5 spoonfuls of happiness, 4 cups of being nice 6 cups of laughter and 5 teaspoons of good times.

What would your friendship soup be? and what do you think makes a good friend? Goodbye and have a amazing day!

The “Zoomtastic” Zoo

Hello everybody and welcome to my blog. Today’s blog will be about my version of Anthony Browne’s narrative story called Zoo. Zoo was a book published in 1984 about a not so perfect family having a family outing to the local Zoo. In some parts of the story the family experiences some problems like the children throwing hands, fighting over food, looking at the animals and describing how boring they are and Dad fighting with the ticket booth guy.

In writing this term, we have been looking at this book and recreating this in our own words. From one paragraph to another, we finished our version of Zoo in 3 weeks. Over this time period we also debated if Zoos should exist or not. There were 3 choices to choose from, For, 50/50 and against. In week 3 we put in our first votes and most people thought Zoos should exist. But in week 6 we looked at some videos of animals enjoying life in the wild and we looked at a sad story of an elephant named Billy being held captive at the Los Angeles zoo. So we put in our final votes in week 6, and this time most people went against it. I chose 50/50 in both weeks because some animals in Zoos get treated with a life they never deserved and some zoos are a place where animals get fed, treated and get taken care of.

After we had completed our writing part of the writing session, we got on to the funny and fun part, the illustrating. We got to make pictures that went along with the paragraph or sentences. My favourite part of writing this term was illustrating because It was funny and enjoyable.

Check out these links for wicked writing and intelligent illustrations.

This is it for today and I hope you all have an amazing day. Do you think Zoos should exist, not exist or are you thinking 50/50? Like me! Goodbye!

The Horrors of the Berlin Wall

Hello everybody! Today I will be sharing with you my learning this week about Freedom. We learnt heaps about the Berlin Wall, splitting East Berlin and West Berlin. My create task was to make a poem about the Berlin Wall. But before I show you my Create task, let me share with you some not so fun facts about the Berlin Wall. Number One: The Berlin Wall was made to keep residents of the Communist East Berlin from escaping to the free West Germany. Number Two: There were 5,000 successful escapes over the wall and 600 un-successful escapes. Number Three: The Fall of the Berlin Wall happened by mistake. I’m sure you will learn something new from my poem, so ladies and gentlemen, My fantastical create task.

What is something interesting you know or just read about the Berlin Wall? Goodbye and have a great rest of the week!

My Exotic Birthday Present! (The word Exotic is going to pop up a lot)

Kia Ora everyone! As some may have known, on the 10th of November it was my birthday. I never got to spend my Birthday at school since my amazing family had booked us a 4 day vacation down south in Queenstown. It was so fun and my favourite part about Queenstown was luge riding up on the Gondola.

But before I even packed, my mother and father surprised me with the best birthday present I had ever gotten so far. A full PC setup! My new PC also had all the specs I ever wanted, If you want to know here it is: CPU: Amd Ryzen 7 GPU: RTX 3070ti RAM: 32 Gigabytes Ram and the list goes on and on. I also got new monitors to assist with my exotic gaming space.

So when I first loaded up that exoctic machine, the first thing I did was of course signed in to Google, Microsoft, Bing the list goes on and on, Then I reached the part where I can finally install my games. I can remember the first game I downloaded on that exotic machine which was my favourite Call of Duty: Warzone.

Anyways I have to go now, What is your favourite video game and what do you play on? Here is a picture of me with my new setup (I know I look cringe but who cares):

Maths Board

Every week we have to do a maths board. A math board is basciccly a board with 5 columns, the first is about the question and answer, the second is about solving it numerically, the third is a word problem, the 4th is solving the question another way and the fifth is solving it visually.

You get a google drawing of questions. Then you choose one question and solve it. This is the link to my maths board: Link

Why is the Mediterranean country Cyprus divided?

Hi I’m Patrick and today I will be explaining why the country Cyprus is divided.

But first, What is Cyprus? Cyprus is an island country located in the Mediterranean Sea right under Turkey (Türkiye). Fun fact about Cyprus, Cyprus is home to the oldest manufactured wine in the world!

Now for why we are here, Why is Cyprus divided? Although Cyprus falls under 1 internationally, it is divided into 2 regions, plus the areas controlled by Britain and the E.U. This was caused due to an attempt to annex the island in 1974 from England to Greece through the coup d’etat, which led to Cyprus gaining its independence.

The English decided to keep the areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia to turn them into military bases for key access to the Middle East.

Turkey invaded five days after the coup d’etat had begun creating the de facto state of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which is only recognised by the Turkish government divided from the north by the E.U buffer zone. The southern half continues to be the Republic of Cyprus, which is internationally recognised.

That is it for today, what did you learn today? Cya!

Country of the Week: France (Including outside territories)

France, in Western Europe, encompasses medieval cities, alpine villages and Mediterranean beaches. Paris, its capital, is famed for its fashion houses, classical art museums including the Louvre and monuments like the Eiffel Tower. The country is also renowned for its wines and sophisticated cuisine. Lascaux’s ancient cave drawings, Lyon’s Roman theatre and the vast Palace of Versailles attest to its rich history.

France is homed to many fashion brands such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Christian Dior or just Dior and heaps more. Did you know that Paris is 1 of 4 main fashion capitals of the world! France is so focused on fashion!

Did you know that France owns some outer territories, that’s right! France owns the following territories. Saint-Martin, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint-Barthélemy, French Guiana, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Wallis and Futuna, French Polynesia, New Caledonia, Mayotte and Réunion.

Here are sun fun facts about France. Did you know that France was under French Monarchy until the end of the Second French Empire. Well here is some more! King Louis XIX was a French king that lasted on the throne for only 20 minutes!

Anyways that is it from me. QUESTION ALERT!!!!!! What is your favourite country? Goodbye!

Country of the week: The Kingdom of Denmark

Denmark, The country where mums could leave their babies in their prams on the sidewalks of Copenhagen and have a night out with the girls. That is how safe Denmark is. According to the Global Peace index, Denmark is the 4th safest country behind Ireland, New Zealand and Iceland.

The Kingdom of Denmark has a total landmass of 852,969 mi², well included Greenland but without Greenland, oh boy it is smaller than New Zealand. So without Greenland, mainland Denmark has a total landmass of… 16,639 mi²! I know, crazy right!

Did you know that there is an underwater bridge that allows you to cross the border from Copenhagen, Denmark to Malmo, Sweden! Here are some more facts. Denmark is 1 of 9 Nordic countries. Did you know that the Danish flag is the oldest flag in the world, created in 1370?

No more facts, now lets talk about the population. The population of Denmark is around 5.8 million residences. Including Greenland it would be somewhere around 5.85 million people, since there is only around 50,000 people living in Greenland.

That is all today, I hope you guys have learnt something. What did you learn today? Goodbye!

Athletics Day

On Tuesday the 25th of October 2022, all St Francis of Assisi students years 1-8 hopped on a bus to Rawhiti Domain. Why you may ask, because it was athletics day. The day where I have fun doing other activities besides the activities that involves running!

So we got to the domain and it was a nice sunny day with a couple of clouds. Firstly I started with my 60 metre sprints and came 4th, then came my 80 metre sprints, came 4th in that too. Wow! 4th in both sprints! That was an achievement for me, but next time I would try to get top 3 next time.

After that I sat down and had some lunch. My friend Tharun bought a whole packet of Oreo’s to share with us. So I munched on 2, then I chugged down nearly all of the water I had in my bottle, I drank a lot.

Then came Long Distance, the one I hated the most since it is really hard for me to run long distances. This year we had to run 1000 meters which is equal to 1 km. Ready Set Go! We started running and I would have finished my first lap but then came, the growing pains, well according to my doctor. I fell to the ground and started holding on to my chest, a couple of friends came and stopped to check if I was okay. Then I got sent home and had the most peaceful sleep in all of mankind. Very peaceful with no interruptions, well it was until my sister came home and started to blast her favourite song in my ear.

Well that is all from me today. What is your favourite athletics activity? Mine is Shot put! Goodbye and have a good day.
