Year: 2022

Poetry Slam. SLJ Task.

Kia Ora everyone and welcome back to my journey, of the Summer Learning Journey of 2022-23. We were required to create some poems and copies of certain slides today. However, there were three slides at the beginning where we had to list some of our interests before moving on. The section on writing inspiration came next. I initially only had two, but as we went along, I began to accumulate more. My two thoughts were summer poetry and a list of my favourite locations. I then proceeded to write some poetry. I created one about a Christmas in New Zealand. Then, I decided to write about Mickey Mouse’s clubhouse. Finally, let’s talk about summer.

Here are my slides, I hope you enjoy it. What was your favourite poem in these slides? Mine was the one about Mickey Mouses clubhouse!

We had to either recreate them with photos using some props, a digital version or just simply drawing it on paper. I traced the painting Girl with a pearl earring digitally. I chose this painting because it was the most important painting that painter Johannes Vermeer, it is also one of his most famous paintings.

Here is my trace, I hope you like it. What is your favourite artwork? Mine is The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci. Here is the drawing link if you want a better read of the information.

Kwanzaa Colour In! SLJ Task

Kia Ora everyone and welcome back to my journey on the Summer Learning Journey of 2022-23. Today I did the activity where I was Unleashing my inner artist. My create task was to choose an artwork on the Google Arts and Culture website and do a little fun colour in. I chose to do something that I have never heard of before, I chose to colour in a Kwanzaa picture.

What is Kwanzaa? Kwanzaa is an annual celebration of African-American culture from December 26 to January 1, culminating in a communal feast called Karamu, usually on the sixth day. It was created by activist Maulana Karenga, based on African harvest festival traditions from various parts of West and Southeast Africa.

Here is my colour, I chose to use my favourite colours in this colour because why not? Anyways here is my colour. Have you heard of any other cultural celebrations? Goodbye and have a good day!

Toa Samoa! SLJ Task: The Samoan Flag

Kia Ora everyone and welcome to my blog, and welcome to those new com-mentors who have dropped by to take a read of my blog. Today, I had to do a task for the Summer Learning Journey of 2022-23, it was to do with the Samoan flag. We had to write what the colours and symbols mean on the flag. An interesting fact I learnt through this project is that Samoa is 1 of 5 countries with the Southern Cross a.k.a the Cruz constellation on their flag. The others being Brazil, New Zealand or Aotearoa, Australia and Papua New Guinea.

Here are what the symbols and colours mean:

  • Blue – Freedom.
  • Red – Courage.
  • White – Purity.
  • Southern Cross – Unknown, Possibly representing Christianity, according to Britannica.

Well, I hope you have learnt something today. Fun fact about Samoa! According to legend, Samoa is known as the “Cradle of Polynesia” because Savai’i island is said to be Hawaiki, the Polynesian homeland. What is something you have learnt about the Samoan flag today? Goodbye and have a good day! Here is the link.

My Friendship Chain

Kia Ora everyone and welcome back to my blog. Today I will be showing you my friendship chain of 2022. This was a task to do for one of our reading tasks, friendship. For this we have to have a picture of your friend, what their name is and why they are their friend. For example: Tharun, a goated handball player, me and him sometimes make people angry in handball when they are waiting for their turn, because we challenge because it takes a really long time.

Here are the friends I added to my friendship chain with the link to their blogs, give them a comment!:

Here is my friendship chain. What are the names of your best friends? Goodbye!
