Greatness of the Geometry Brick!

Kia Ora katoa kōrua nau ko ngaku rangitaki. Hello everybody and welcome to my blog.

Today I will be showing you my geometry shaped brick. I chose to do a quadrilateral because it was a very simple and easy shape to do. A quadrilateral always needs to have 4 sides, 4 corners and 4 verticies.

Here is my brick.

What shape would you do if you did this?

A Depressing Month

So on Thursday 8th of September 2022, the world was hit with one of the worst news anyone could hear. Queen Elizabeth the second has sadly passed away peacefully in the well known Balmoral Castle. About 5 hours before her death they announced that the Royal family was worried about her health so they got her checked out, later then, they were right.

After that to show our respect, most countries of the world put their flag down to half mast as a sign of respect. Now that the Queen is no longer with us, she is now with her most beloved Prince Philip. Taking her place will be her eldest, Prince Charles the Third or should I say, King Charles the Third.

Well sadly we have more bad things to start off the month, it was officially the 21st year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks that happened in the following locations. Twin Towers a.k.a The World Trade Centre. The Pentagon outside of Washington D.C and a fourth that crashed somewhere near Pennsylvania after the crew and passengers took over the hijackers controls.

Rest in peace for those who lost loved ones in 9/11, and rest in peace with the queen. This truly was a horrific start to the Month.

It actually snowed!

Kia Ora Y'all, you will not believe what happened this week. I will give you time to guess... IT SNOWED!

It has been a while since snow has come to Christchurch, last time it came was in 2011! That's the
The year I was born!

Fun fact about snow!
Snow forms when tiny ice crystals in clouds stick together to become snowflakes.
If enough crystals stick together, they'll become heavy enough to fall to the ground.
Snowflakes that descend through moist air that is slightly warmer than
0 °C will melt around the edges and stick together to produce big flakes.

When I woke up that day my phone was blowing up from my friends sending me snaps about
how snow is in their garden, I did not believe it but when I peeked through the window,
I absolutely busted out the door, like when Homer Simpson finds a stand selling
free donuts.

Then when I arrived at school my and my friends had a snowball fight, some kids also
made really big snowballs.

But unfortunately the snow all melted by about morning tea time, but other than the snow melting
it was absolutely amazing!

Anyways, This is the end of my blog post now.
See you guys later!

What would you do if you saw a bog patch of snow.

Impulsive Podcast

Kia Ora and Welcome back to my blog. Today I will be what me and my group have made for our PBL presentation. Our PBL question was, “How can we use our voice to ensure our planet survives?” and our project was a Solar Panel Powered Electric Skateboard (SPPES).

What we have created is a Podcast that advertises the great things about our product. Our Skateboard is powered by a Solar Panel that is connected to an eco-friendly motor that does not run on gas. It starts in just simple steps by just relaxing your feet on the designated area, then  it will proceed to push you around your sidewalks or anywhere you choose.

We decided to make this because we noticed that peoples legs always get tired of pushing themselves while skating on the skateboard. Our product will automatically drive itself by the power of Solar energy once you get on. Best thing is that unlike the Lime scooter needed to pay $0.15 per minute its complete free to ride.

We learnt how we could make more people draw attention to our podcast, we learnt that we all needed to have expression and catchy words, That is exactly what we had done. Anyways  now we get to the fun bit, by clicking on the links you will be able to find our final product.

CSO Visit

This week the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra (CSO) came into our hall to introduce some of their instruments and what they do.

The instrument that I liked the most was the trombone because it was the loudest out of any instrument in the Orchestra, it was also a part of the brass family which I like the most.

The thing that surprised me the most was the string family because they went from a small violin to a big violin which I have forgotten the name of.

Something that I found interesting was the flute because they needed this thing to make the flute stand out and sound beautiful.

What is your favourite instrument in the Orchestra? I have to go now, Goodybe.

Swimming Post Blog

We have just finished two weeks of swimming lessons at QEII.

In my last blog post I wanted to use this week to improve on how to work on my scaling, I have been unsuccessful because we only actually did scaling on the last day and had no time to practice.

This week, we did a lot of water safety skills. Something that I have learnt is when you are drowning and you raise your hand you do not swing it around, and this is important because people may think that you’re just waving at them.

The thing that I enjoyed the most this week was pyjama day because I learnt how to swim with heavy clothes on, it was very challenging because my pyjamas were really heavy.

Something that I want to learn next time I have swimming lessons at school, is to try to hold my breath underwater so that I can swim far while holding my breath in competitions and challenges so I have a better advantage of winning.

Statistics Week 10!!!

Kia Ora and Welcome to my blog about…. Statistics!

This term we have been learning about Statistics and its importance when collecting data. We learnt about different types of graphs e.g

A Bar Graph, A Line Chart, A Pie Chart, A Stem and Leaf.

Today our thing was based on the Mid Winter Lego sale that happened at the warehouse yesterday. We had to give out recommendations to see which ones they should sell more and to do so we represented data in a chart. I did 2 graphs, A Pie Chart and a Bar Graph, here are my graphs.

Some statements on these charts:

I think that the Warehouse should sell more Creator Lego sets and less Ninjago sets.

I wonder why there are less Ninjago sets than any of the other sets.

I notice that Harry Potter sets and Friends sets are at the same amount of sets.

Anyways that’s my blog. Goodbye!

What is your favourite type of graph?

Reading Week 7

Vertical Farming.

Kia Ora Whanau and Welcome back to my blog and today we are talking about Vertical Farming.

Vertical Farming is framing from indoors and instead of using Sunlight they use LED’s. Vertical Farming is way different from Conventional farming because Vertical farming is done indoors and the Conventional Farming is done outdoors. It is also better for the environment because there is no source of greenhouse gases but in Conventional Farming there can sometimes be from all of the Vehicles.

They use LED Lighting and indoor spaces to grow their plants unlike the Conventional Farming because they use vehicles that can run on gas and they drive over the plants when they are watering it. There are no vehicles involved in Vertical Farming so that it can be a healthier environment in the spaces.

Most people are not using Vertical Farming because of the cost. It could be up to $5B to $20B a year. So that is why people are barley using Vertical Farming.

Sustainable Transportation

Kia Ora Whanau and Welcome back to my blog and today we are talking about Sustainable Transport

What are the different types of sustainable transportation and what makes them sustainable?

Anything made by Lime would be good for the environment, If you do not know what Lime is, it is that company that makes those E Scooters or E Bikes. Also maybe an electric car company would be great like Tesla or BMW or maybe even a Mazda Electric would be great. Maybe something as simple as walking would be great as well maybe even biking, I mean they are both great things, saving the environment and giving yourself a workout at the same time.

How does sustainable transportation positively impact the environment or lessen the negative impact?

Sustainable Transportation is Positively impacting the environment because it is not being used by gas which could cause the wonderful nature to be horrible and disgusting but if we all switch to the E V Vehicles we would still have a wonderful and fantastic environment. Less Carbon Monoxide and Gas cars would make a huge impact on our world.

What could be some barriers to using more Eco-friendly forms of transport? What kind of practical changes could you or your family make to be more sustainable in this way?

The downside of Electric Vehicles is that not many people are buying them because they are expensive and they also don’t have much range in it e.g If you were to try to from Picton to Dunedin in a Electric Vehicle with 300km of range you would have to stop somewhere and charge up. There are also problems with scooters, like when you never realise that you are about to scooter in a really slippery part of concrete you end up slipping.
