Learn to Shot put for beginners! Procedural Writing

Kia Ora, I am Patrick and this week in writing we have been learning about Procedural writing. Procedural Writing is basically a step-by-step instructional piece of text. Our task was to make a Procedural text about one of the sports we have to do on Athletics day. I chose to do Shot put because It is a pretty easy sport to write instructions about.

Anyways, Enjoy my Procedural writing.

How to throw the perfect Shot Put, For beginners

You will need the following Materials:

  • Shot put
  • Hoop

INTRO: Firstly, you will need to place the hoop onto the ground and step in it, after that you will position yourself into the hoop. Then you pick up the shot put and place it against your neck. Make sure the shot put is in your writing hand to make it easier.

YOUR POSITIONING: Once you feel comfortable in your position, you point the opposite arm somewhere in the air, that will help you with your targeting.

THROWING IT: Now after you have done these steps, you then push back then pull forward and throw! But in Shot put, you don’t throw it like how you would a normal ball. In Shot put you have to push the ball out of your hand. Like this.

WHAT YOU DO AFTER: After you have pushed the Shot put out of your hands, you then need to step behind your hoop and then go run to where your Shot put has landed, then pick it up and place it into your hoop.

Congratulations! You have done it. You are now a future Tom Walsh or Valarie Adams.

Hope you guys liked it and enjoyed it. Click this link for the Images and Gifs. QUESTION ALERT!!!!!!! What is your favourite Athletics sport? Mine is Shot put! Goodbye and have a good day!

Why did Yugoslavia disintegrate?

Why did Yugoslavia disintegrate? Hello, My  name is Patrick and I will be answering the question on why Yugoslavia disintegrated. But first, What is Yugoslavia?

Yugoslavia was a large country that sat on the Balkan peninsula between the years of 1918 – 2003. Yugoslavia consists of 6 nations. Those 6 nations being Slovenia, Croatia, Monetenegro, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia. But what caused this nation to disappear?  Lets find out shall we!

Why did Yugoslavia dissapear?

Between 1929 and 2003, Yugoslavia was a sovereign nation. The main causes of its dissolution were a combination of centrifugal nationalist tendencies and cultural and religious differences, as well as memories of atrocities committed during World War 2.

Slovenia, Croatia, and Macedonia, the first three of the six former Yugoslav republics to declare their independence which happened in 1991 , followed by Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992, Montenegro and Serbia in 2006, and Kosovo’s declaration of independence from Serbia in 2008.

A very short explanation today since mine are so long. QUESTION ALERT!!!!! What was the official name of Bosnia? Have a great day everybody!                                                                                              Thank you to @thegeotraveler on TikTok for helping me with some information.

The Union Jack

The Union Jack, flag of the United Kingdom. Today I will be showing you the 3 crosses that are seen on the flag, and what they mean.

Cross of St. Andrews, representing Scotland.

The Cross of St. Andrews is the white cross in the shape of an X. Why is it in the shape of an X? When Saint Andrew, one of the Apostles, was being crucified by the Romans in A.D. 60, it is said that he believed himself unworthy to be crucified on a cross like that of Christ, and so he met his end on a ‘saltire’, or X-shaped cross (St. Andrew’s cross) which became his symbol.

Cross of St. George, representing England.

The Cross of St. George is the big red cross we can see in the centre. The St. George’s flag, a red cross on a white field, was adopted by England and the City of London in 1190 for their ships entering the Mediterranean to benefit from the protection of the Genoese fleet. The English Monarch paid an annual tribute to the Doge of Genoa for this privilege.

Cross of St. Patrick, represents Northern Ireland.

The Cross of St. Patrick looks like the Cross of St. Andrew but instead of it being white, it is red. Saint Patrick’s Saltire or Saint Patrick’s Cross is a red saltire on a white field, used to represent Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. The red saltire’s association with Saint Patrick dates from the 1780s, when the Order of Saint Patrick adopted it as an emblem.

If you don’t really understand, here is a image that gives an easy explanation on where the crosses are.

8 Things You Didn't Know About the Union Jack

I hope you guys have learnt something today. QUESTION ALERT!!!!! Do you have a Saint named after you? I do, mine is St. Patrick, the patron Saint of Ireland. Have a good day! Goodbye!

Genghis Khan. A Mongol Warrior.

Genghis Khan. A Mongol Warrior. By Patrick Dibnah.

Hi, My name is Patrick and I am a student at St Francis of Assisi school and is a really big fan of History and Geography. I have been learning about Greek Mythology earlier in this 2 week break, Now I am focusing on Genghis Khan and the Mongol Empire. Here I present to you, what I have learnt so far about Genghis and his empire.

Who was he? The Mongol Empire, which later grew to be one of the biggest empires in history, was founded by Genghis Khan and he was the first khan. By bringing together many of the nomadic tribes of the Mongol steppe, he attained authority and was dubbed Genghis Khan, or the Universal of the Mongols.

What is the Mongol Empire? Compared to other countries, Mongolia now is quite normal in size. However, earlier in the 12th century, it was enormous. What would it resemble? Consider a nation that runs from the present-day Korean Peninsula to the present-day Czech Republic. Very long, I’m aware. A fun fact Russia was dwarfed by its size.

Was Genghis wealthy? Genghis would make Elon Musk seem poor if he were still living today! With a total wealth of 120 trillion dollars, he is one of the wealthiest leaders to have ever walked the Earth.

How did Genghis die? Genghis died on August 25 1227 due to a horse that threw Genghis to the ground that caused multiple injuries, He never recovered. Ögedei Khan then took his place.

Well that is what I have so far. QUESTION ALERT!!!!! I have 2 questions for you fellas out there. Question 1. What is the capital of Mongolia? Question 2. What were the 2 countries I mentioned that represented how long the Mongol Empire was.

Have a blessed day everybody!

Here is a picture of a comparison of the Mongol Empire and a picture of Genghis Khan (More of a portrait actually).

Most stupidest wars in my opinion.

Welcome to my blog, Humans, Monkeys, Pokemons, and Dinosaurs. I’ll be discussing the conflicts I think are the stupidest ever today.

1.Reconquista (741 year fight) (741 year war)

The Christian states’ sole objective in this conflict was to drive the Muslim states out of what are now Spain and Portugal. This war is stupid in my opinion because it lasted so long—Adolf Hitler invaded the majority of Europe in just 4 years!

2.The Australian Emu War

I think this conflict is stupid for two reasons. One of its national idols was among the thousands of people they were slaughtering. 2. The farmers might have simply purchased several scarecrows or made their own to scare the emus away, and they could have lived happily ever after.

3.35 year conflict

Okay, you must confess that the 335-year conflict had never been mentioned before. Let me summarise everything for you: there was a conflict between a small nation and an island off the coast of Italy. That’s correct, a 335-year conflict involving an Italian island and a minor nation.

I hope you guys can see the point that I am trying to make about why it was so stupid.

Now I have a question for you Humans, Monkeys, Pokemon’s and Dinosaurs put there. What is a war that you think that New Zealand could win?

Patrick writes Mythology!: Theseus and the Minotaur.

As you may know, I have been learning about Greek mythology at the moment. Today I will be sharing a story called Theseus and the Minotaur. Before we start let me introduce some words that you may find.

Minotaur: In Greek mythology, the Minotaur is a mythical creature portrayed during classical antiquity with the head and tail of a bull and the body of a man or, as described by Roman poet Ovid, a being “part man and part bull”. Now lets get started shall we.

Patrick Writes Mythology! – Theseus and the Minotaur!

In the land of Ancient Greece, when the God’s ruled the Earth. They drove a wedge between two kings. King Aegeus of Athens was a gentle, friendly king; However King Minos of Crete was a vicious Savage Beast. Regrettably the son of King Minos had been terminated in a battle with King Aegeus.

Deep underground of the capital city, King Minos had imprisoned a beast that is half man, half bull. The demon had a powerful, enormous fists, long sharpened claws, a massive mouth and the sharpest teeth. Its teeth were sharpened, broken and yellow. Its horns were the strongest part of him and the widest. The eyes were vein-bulging and dark eyes.

In retribution for the death of Minos’ son, the Athenians had to sacrifice fourteen citizens to this terrifying Minotaur every year. Theseus, the son of King Aegeus was an adventurous, positive man who loved to go on dangerous missions and could never refuse a challenge. One year, he offered to sail to the island of Crete as one of the seven young men sent as a sacrifice. Thesus was stubbornly set upon killing the Minotaur. King Aegeus felt heartbroken and horrified about his son’s decision. He told him to fly white sails on his return to show the mission had been successful.

Wind rippled through the ship’s sails as Thesus and his companions travelled to Crete. King Minos and his Ariadne greeted the Athenians at the harbour. “ Time to meet your doom!” King Minos declared matter-of-factly. As the Athenians were marching labyrinth with their sweaty palm, quivered lips and their hands tightened.

Ariadne, whose eyes did not shine like sapphires and whose lips were not as red as roses, had fallen in love with Thesus at first sight. “How can I rescue my brave, powerful, love from the man eating beast?” she thought. “If you choose to marry me, I will help you escape the Minotaur” she whispered.

Ariadne gave Theseus a ball of string and told him to unravel it as he walked through the maze, so he could use it as a path back to safety. Deep in the dark dungeon underground, the opponent’s karate kicked and stabbed savagley. SMASH! CRASH! KAPOW! FLOP! Thesus battled, defeated and killed the Minotaur. Theseus, who was exhausted but elated, escaped.

Thesus’ men bolted as fast as a racing car to their awaiting ship. Thesus’ jaw dropped, tears went bursting out of his eyes when Ariadne said, “Remember, you promised to marry me.” As the ship carried them back to Athens, Thesus felt sick to the stomach and caged like an animal.

Far away from home they stopped on an island to collect supplies. As Ariadne was putting her makeup on, the crew were having a nice swim in the salty, ocean water.Thesus thought, ‘I need to get out of here. She is not the girl for me and never will be. ’The Athenians all skulked to the boat and silently rowed away from the shore.

Wandering, joyfully Ariadne decided to gather food for the group. The berries that she collected were bursting with a rich sweetness – moist, sweet, sensational. Yet when she returned to show the others her produce, everyone had abandoned her; her love had abandoned her.

As days turned into nights; as the clouds gathered in the sky, Thesus sailed closer to home. However, Thesus forgot to fly white sails to show his father that he was safe. The sails were as black as a sinsiter raven. King Aegeus stared out to sea and realized his son was dead.

Believing his own son had been slained by the Minotaur, he was heart broken, crushed, depressed. ”I can no longer continue to live like this without my son,” he cried. The oppressevie, dark thunder clouds mimicked the skys turning into bruises, breaking heart. With nothing left to live for, the grieving father was lured and digested by the turbulent, tempestous sea. King Aegeus had tragically died in vain. The end.

I hope you guys enjoyed the story about Theseus and the Minotaur. Now I have 3 uestions to ask to see if you were paying attention.

Question 1: King Ageus was described as what type of king? Question 2: What did Ariadne give the Minotaur? Question 3: In retribution for the death of Minos’ son, what did the Athenians have to sacrifice?

Goodbye and have a blessed day!

Geography facts I bet you never knew.

Hello, and today I’ll be presenting some geographical facts you probably didn’t know.

Number 1:  The U.K. has specifically attacked 9 out of 10 nations on Earth.

The only countries that the U.K has never attempted to attack are Andorra, Belarus, Bolivia, Burundi, Republic of Congo, Central Africa Republic, Chad, Guatemala, Ivory Coast, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Mali, Pacific (Marshall) Islands, Monaco, Mongolia, Paraguay, Togo, Principe, Sweden, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and the Vatican City. That is 22 countries that the U.K has not attempted to attack, can you believe it!

Number 2: Denmark owns 2 different countries.

Greenland and the Faroe Islands are owned by the country of Denmark, in case you didn’t know! According to google, Denmark and Norway declared their ownership of the island in order to increase trade and power. When the union was dissolved in 1814, Norway lost authority over Greenland as a result of its precarious position. In accordance with the Danish Constitution, Greenland adopted Danish citizenship in 1814 and was fully assimilated into the Danish state in 1953.

Number 3: Mauritius is closer to France than you think!

Mauritius, the most safest African country and most democratic African country. Mauritius is an island country which is also where my friend Louka is from, I bet you never knew that France owns war more land then you think, they own Reunion which is the island France owns that is near Mauritius. France owns the Island of Corsica which is right near the bigger Italian island Sardinia, they also own a cut of Antarctica which they named Adelie land.

Number 4: Australia is its own independent continent.

Hey kids! Name all of the countries in the continent Oceania! Oh sir, I can. New Zealand, Australia- WRONG! Australia is its own independent Continent! That’s right guys, Australia and Papua New Guinea are a part of the 8th continent of the world, Australia. Did you know that Australia once asked New Zealand to be a part of their continent, I think its pretty clear what New Zealand said.

Have a good day and I have a challange for you guys, Try to find the smallest country in each continent. Now what did you guys learn from today?

Goodbye!

Greek Mythology has a lot of interest!

Hey, would you like to learn with me about the 12 primary Greek gods in Greek mythology? Well then, Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Ares, Hephaestus, Aphrodite, Hermes, and either Hestia or Dionysus are the 12 main Greek gods. But today we will be focusing on Poseidon, Zues, Hercules and Hera.

Let’s begin with a brief history of Poseidon. Poseidon is the god of the sea (and of water in general) in ancient Greek mythology. He also represents earthquakes and horses. He differs from Pontus, who represents the sea and is the first Greek deity of the waterways. Poseidon’s name translates to “lord of the earth” or “husband of the earth.”  Did you know that Poseidon’s huge three-pronged spear, known as a Trident, serves as his emblem? Very cool! “Isn’t the Neptune god of the sea?” I know you might have been wondering, but Neptune was Poseidon’s opposite in pre-Christian Roman mythology.

Moving onto, Zeus: Who is He? In Greek mythology, Zeus is the deity of the sky. Zeus is the most important Greek deity and is regarded as the king, guardian, and father of all other gods and mankind. Zeus wouldn’t be afraid of anything because he is a deity, right? WRONG! The goddess of night, Nyx, terrified Zeus. Zeus is younger and weaker than Nyx. Zeus had six children, with Hercules being the strongest. Let’s start by talking a little about Hercules.

Hercules was regarded as Zeus’s strongest offspring because of his strength, which was on par with that of the God of Thunder. Hercules’ twelve labours, which became one of the most famous stories in Greek Mythology, served as evidence of his power.

Now lets move onto Hera. Hera, the daughter of Cronus and Rhea, was connected to every facet of a woman’s existence. Romans called her Juno, the goddess of women, marriage, and childbirth. Hera’s wide, round eyes earned her the nickname “ox-eyes” from Homer, who also called her tall and attractive.

Anyways I hope you guys have learnt some facts today. I have a challenge for you guys now, can you name 1 fact you have learnt abut each Greek god you have learnt about today?. I want to thank Quillbot for paraphrasing sentences and creating sentence patterns for me. Anyways Goodbye!!

Some Geography facts I have learnt over this long weekend

Hello everybody. As you may know, we have a long weekend for Queen Elizabeth the Second’s memorial day. Over this time period I have been studying some Geographical facts about Europe and Asia.

Here are some Geographical facts I have learnt about Asia.

  1. The Mongol Empire was the second largest empire in history. It stretched from Korea all the way to Poland. (Very Big).
  2. Most of Russia is in Asia, but most people want Russia to be fully European since that capital is in Europe.
  3. North Korea and South Korea is smaller than New Zealand. I know, crazy right!
  4. Borneo is the 3rd largest island in the world behind Greenland and New Guinea.
  5. Did you know that Asia is the largest continent Population wise and Area!

Now here is the Geographical facts I learnt about Europe.

  1. Europe is home to Sweden, and Sweden has the most islands in the world. Not even I knew that!
  2. Somehow Europe is the most peaceful continent. (I do not understand because of Ukraine and Russia, The Balkans and the Greece and Turkey argument.
  3.  Europe is described as peninsulas of peninsulas.
  4. Did you know that Europe is homed to most Micro states. (Basically really small countries)
  5. There are ONLY 50 countries in Europe. I would have thought that there would have been more.
